About Department

The Biomedical Engineering Department at Government Polytechnic, Ahmedabad aims to create engineers who can bridge the gap between engineering, science and medical instrumentation field thereby playing a pivotal role to create enabling technologies for the improvement of human health and health care.

  • The department aims to attain academic excellence by preparing highly skilled biomedical engineers who can deliver effective healthcare solutions for betterment of the national healthcare system.


  • Building a strong foundation of fundamental knowledge in all aspects of engineering education ranging from basic sciences, mathematics to electronics design and development.
  • Encouraging creativity, self-learning and innovation among the students in terms of design, development, testing and troubleshooting of medical devices, components or processes that meet desired needs of Biology and Medical Instrumentation field.
  • Producing individuals who can work well either independently or in a team with high moral and ethical standards.
  • Working on socially relevant healthcare issues/problems and developing feasible solutions for them.
  • Fostering an appreciation of how economic, ethical, political and social factors affect the practice of Medicine and Biomedical Engineering.


  • Pursue Higher Education and Employment in Biomedical field.
  • Analysing in operating, Calibrating, Maintaining and repairing biomedical equipment’s in hospital and industrial environment.
  • Work in multidisciplinary areas with a Strong focus on innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • Possess the leadership abilities in taking firm decisions and their contribution for the welfare of the society with ethics.
  • Develop good communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively at technical and non-technical levels.


  • Have the ability to apply fundamentals of electronics to design and maintenance of biomedical equipment.
  • Have the ability to solve Biomedical engineering problems associated with interaction between living and non-living systems.
  • Have requisite soft skills to work effectively in a team for developing solutions to socially relevant healthcare issues.
